Katy & Philip Leakey are world renowned for their sustainable practices. Our Marula oil is derived from wild-harvested, hand-selected Marula nuts by East African women, then cold pressed for the highest quality and purity.

Wild-harvesting promotes the conservation of natural stands of trees that are often cut for firewood. The fallen fruit is collected over a vast area ensuring that no particular area is stripped of the fruit, nuts, seeds, and food source for the proliferation of the species, the animals, or human needs on which they have become dependent over the centuries.

At Marula-The Leakey Collection, we think the Marula tree is one of natures biggest gifts. It has always been held in high regard by indigenous people in East Africa. In late summer each year, the female trees produce a pale green fruit, which ripens and falls to the ground.
