Decoding Your Skincare Regimen

Posted on Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Dr. Ashton Kaidi, a board certified plastic surgeon and endorser of Marula – The Leakey Collection facial oil, hears a common refrain from many of his patients: how many products do I really need for an effective skincare regimen? Is it true that more is better? And, how much is too much?

In this age of easy access to multiple choices it’s understandable that it seems difficult to decode the seemingly complex world of skincare in the new millennium. Yet, Dr. Kaidi says it’s actually quite simple. He states, “Two basics are cleanser and moisturizer. Your cleanser should be gentle enough to use every day, and your moisturizer should ideally include an SPF of 15 or more.” In addition to these two skincare musts, “exfoliate 2-3 times a week, either manually or with an at home AHA product, and add a great anti-oxidant (Marula – The Leakey Collection, of course!) each day. If you feel a need for an eye cream or another specialty product, 1 more item is fine, but applying too many products or exfoliating too often can be counter-productive.” Read more

Beautify Your Winter Skin

Posted on Friday, November 09, 2012

As the sun fades and the winter winds starts, our skin has to adjust to the changing climate. Fortunately, with a little help from the tanning salon and dermatologist, you can keep your skin tip-top shape just in time for the holiday season. We know you work hard in the winter months preparing and planning, so here are a few Marula Beauty tips to add to your skin care treatment this season.

Facial and Chemical Peels are great around this time of year because sun exposure is lower. Excessive sun exposure will damage the new skin and work against what your peel was trying to accomplish. Because of the lower sun exposure in the winter, recovery is quick.  Marula oil can be applied daily after the procedure in conjunction with a sunscreen. This locks in the moisture in the skin  while the sunscreen protects it from the damage sun can cause. With more moisture, this skin will peel correctly, and moisturize the emerging skin to leave your face soft and glowing.  Read more

Ask Dr. Kaidi - Can A Facial Peel Give Me Glowing Results For My Wedding Day?

Posted on Wednesday, June 06, 2012

Question: I am 29 years old and will be married in June of next year. I am considering having a facial peel prior to my wedding day and wanted to know what the best peels are for my age and when should I start?

Doctor’s Orders:
For young brides I would recommend a glycolic acid peel. It tightens pores and helps the complexion. The recovery is 2-3 days. Most patients can start at 3 months prior to their wedding date. Most doctors will recommend a series of about 3 peels, scheduled in 1-month intervals.

MarulaBeauty Approach: Glycolic acid peels work by loosening up and exfoliating the top layer of skin. High strength peels, like the ones in an office, are good in terms of efficacy but they irritate skin more than their at home counterparts. Beauty isn’t always easy, right? Fortunately, by applying Marula oil after your peel can help soothe post-facial skin by reducing redness and calming inflammation, while hydrating skin and fighting free radicals (one of the major causes of skin aging).  With Marula -The Leakey Collection,  you can skip the recovery days of over-sized sunglasses and emergency incognito trips to Froyo. Read more
