It is the commitment to stick with every child under Father Henry’s care who begins as an orphan or is mired in such poverty that hope seems elusive. October is Fair Trade Month but in our world...it is every day.

When we thought about bringing Marula Oil to the West from East Africa, it wasn't part of our thought process to bring you something ordinary, we wanted to create a beauty oil that delivered something extraordinary!  Paying attention to every detail, we did our homework...we wanted to get this right because so much depended on YOU...falling in love with our formula. Designing the bottle was a labor of love. Last month we ran a contest on our Marula Pinterest page encouraging our followers to pin a photo of their sister and share with us a sentiment or memory of their sisterhood. Our winner, Linda Davison and her sister, Virginia not only represent the idea of “Sisters Make the Best Friends,” but live an example of this philosophy that has truly inspired us.

Our winner Linda entered our contest to win for her sister, which by itself is a beautiful act. The more you learn about these two sisters, the more special their connection becomes. Linda is diagnosed with sarcoidosis, a systemic inflammatory disease where the immune system cells cluster to form lumps, and can affect how the organs in the body work. In Linda, these “lumps”, have most recently affected her liver, lungs, and eyes, and she has been hooked up to an oxygen machine because her immune system is so low.  Read more

  Shopping for a Change ®(http://shoppingforachange.org/) is a non-profit website where artisans, predominantly women from economically disadvantaged areas throughout the world, can sell their work. The website was born out of Stacey’s visit to Peru in 2008/2009. She was inspired by the natural beauty of the area, but troubled by the poverty and hunger that plagued the region. Stacey says, “I wholeheartedly believe people should be able to put nutritious food on their tables, a roof overhead, and have access to clean water--such basic needs, which many of us take for granted.” Read more

One of our favorite quotes that we love comes from the Oscar 2012 nominated movie "THE HELP". Mae Mobley is the young girl who is constantly criticized by her mother, and Aibileen is the caregiver of young Mae, who tries to counter the effect of this cruelty with a daily ritual of repeating these words: “YOU IS KIND, YOU IS SMART, YOU IS IMPORTANT.” Aibileen’s daily ritual made a positive impact on a small child whose confidence and self-esteem were in constant jeopardy by her mother’s actions. It is a testimony to how words can inspire and make a difference.  Read more
