Safe Sun 101: How to Maximize Your Skincare this Summer

Marula Beauty - Sunday, July 15, 2012

As summer cruises into the hotter and sunnier months, it’s important not to forget about taking care of your skin this season. Here are a few of our favorite Marula Beauty tips to keep your skin moisturized, healthy, and protected.

Your Mistake: Not applying often enough
An ABC (only applying during August, baseball games, and concerts) sunscreen regimen is not enough to fully protect your skin during the summer. Even if the sun doesn’t feel hot you are still being exposed to damaging rays. So skipping the sunscreen at your office patio party, while grilling on the deck on Saturday afternoon, or before you hit the outlet mall is causing more damage than you think.

Your enemies: Free Radicals
Free radicals penetrate the skin to attack healthy cells. The main sources of free radicals? Sun and pollution. That’s where antioxidants come in; they can help protect the face from these sources. Marula oil contains Vitamin E and other high antioxidant powers that can help protect against free radicals and is an excellent source of topical antioxidants, the free radical fighting capability is very important for skin.

Your beauty secret: Sunscreen + Marula -The Leakey Collection
Nothing will protect your skin more that the application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. However, you can give your skin a dose of antioxidant muscle under your sunscreen by applying few drops of our Marula Oil applied before your sunscreen will add extra moisture to your skin, keeping it vibrant, glowing, and healthy. Just apply Marula Oil first, that way the oil will penetrate the skin faster and more effectively.

If you accidentally skipped out on sunscreen one day, Marula oil can be used after sun exposure. The more unprotected exposure you have with the sun, the more damage it will do to you skin. By routinely applying sunscreen and Marula oil together you can hydrate and protect your skin and spend your time sipping lemonade and leisurely reading on your back patio, while reminding yourself you need more friends with yachts.
