Here at Marula Beauty we are team of caring women who are passionate about beauty in all forms that creates a better world in the process. In other words, we believe in being beautiful beyond the bottle. We support a “Look Good – Feel Good – Do Good” philosophy so that together we can create more beauty in the world physically, emotionally, and environmentally.
We are excited to know that our fans and retailers exhibit this kind of extended beauty to themselves, their stores, and others in their lives. Stacey Horowitz founder of Shopping for a Change® has been an avid supporter of The Leakey Collection and now has added Marula - The Leakey Collection to her product lineup. She and her business are the ideal illustration of the beauty beyond the bottle.
Shopping for a Change ®(http://shoppingforachange.org/) is a non-profit website where artisans, predominantly women from economically disadvantaged areas throughout the world, can sell their work. The website was born out of Stacey’s visit to Peru in 2008/2009. She was inspired by the natural beauty of the area, but troubled by the poverty and hunger that plagued the region. Stacey says, “I wholeheartedly believe people should be able to put nutritious food on their tables, a roof overhead, and have access to clean water--such basic needs, which many of us take for granted.”
She supports women in this area, and now in regions worldwide, by selling their traditional crafts on her site, which in turn, allows them to provide for their families. This Marula beautiful woman says, “If you can do something that helps make any of this possible for another person who is less fortunate, then you have made a difference just being here on this big beautiful planet. Who wouldn't want to know that their existence matters?”
As if that isn’t inspiring enough, the women are paid according to terms they set and all the proceeds from the products aid in funding improvement projects and charitable organizations. Similar to how Marula supports the women in East Africa, with this new income these women have opportunities for long-lasting jobs, as well as the means to provide for their families, communities, and their futures.
We think the business practices of companies like Shopping for a Change® are what going beyond what beauty is about. We hope that by sharing their story with you, we’ve shared the knowledge that any amount of time or support to a store, charity, or project that gives back is worthwhile. Physically, emotionally, and environmentally, the circular pattern of giving is what transforms the world into a more beautiful place.
